The Need for Daily Contact with God's Word

Faith in Jesus is an on-going relationship with God that, like all relationships, needs constant nurture and development. God has provided His Word, the Bible, to help continually strengthen faith.
St. Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

So it is crucial for all God’s people to spend time reading the Bible as much as possible--at least once a day. You may simply read the Bible as is, or you may find it helpful to read a short portion of the Bible and then read an inspirational thought based on that part of the Bible. We call those kinds of materials “Devotionals” or “Devotions”.

If you have never read the Bible, it is advised that you not begin reading from the front to the back, as you would read a novel. Begin with the Gospels of the New Testament (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John), and then read the other books of the New Testament, which are mostly letters to the early Christians. After a thorough knowledge of Jesus is attained, then the books of the Old Testament will begin to make more sense.
