New Sermon Series

A new sermon series will begin at Holy Cross on October 8 entitled “SOLA!” based on a recent book by author Heather Choate Davis & Leann Luchinger. On this 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation, the series will examine the Reformation Motto, “Sola Gratia, Sola Fide, Sola Scriptura” (Grace Alone, Faith Alone, Scripture Alone). We will celebrate and to thank God for working through Martin Luther and the other reformers to help the church get back to the Bible. Books with study guides will be available for purchase in October.

The Indiana Central Region of the LCMS celebration of the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation is Sunday, October 29 at Cornerstone Lutheran Church in Carmel at 3:00 p.m. Make your plans to be part of this historic celebration.

Focus Groups

The Ministry Staff of Holy Cross could use your talents, interests, & expertise. We have identified some areas of ministry that need tweaking and have formed 3 Focus Groups to discuss them.

  2. Worship Planning & Theming (future worship experiences)
  3. Digital Engagement (extending our reach through the various online media)

Grief Support Group

“GriefShare” is a weekly seminar designed to offer practical advice, support and encouragement after the death of a spouse, child, family member or friend. Faith-based guidance in getting through the pain and rebuilding your life is provided through insightful videos and discussion with others who are grieving. A 12-week Fall GriefShare group is being organized. FaTHoM Studies

It’s never too late to participate in the Study of God’s Word. Even after the class has begun, you’ll still benefit from what is shared. Come and discover what God has in mind for you and the world.

• Nov 26: Thanksgiving Weekend – YES! There is Sunday School. (And a 6 Week Celebration!!!)
• December 17: Sunday School Christmas Program
• December 24 & 31: No Sunday School
*What’s a 6 Week Celebration!!! ? Every 6 Weeks, we’ll pause our regular lessons to celebrate together, earn prizes, play games, sing songs, eat snacks, do a craft and learn a new quarterly Bible verse. Feel free to join us – we really do have a good time!

Holy Cross Orchestra
If you are an experienced instrumentalist, high school age or older, you are invited to be part of the Holy Cross Orchestra which will hold rehearsals on Sunday, October 15th, and Sunday, October 22nd at 10 a.m. in the Music Room (Room #109) in preparation for our Reformation celebration on Sunday, October 29th.  Contact Paul Groth at for more information.

Volunteer Brunch and Sign-Up Weekend – October 7 & 8
Another opportunity for volunteering and appreciation for those who already are volunteering will come NEXT WEEKEND, October 7 & 8. This opportunity to sign up as a volunteer will be happening in our Worship Center narthex as well as in The Crossing that weekend, along with extra food goodies to say “thank you” to those who presently volunteer and to encourage others to volunteer for the various groups which make ministry possible here at Holy Cross. Displays and representatives will be in both the Narthex area and The Crossing to answer questions and provide information about these service possibilities.

Deen Albert will be sharing his story of conversion from Islam to Christianity. Zion Lutheran Church New Palestine, “German Fest” is on Saturday, October 7th from 11:00a.m. – 8:00 p.m. As we celebrate 500 years of the Reformation, the committee is providing a day of celebrating and fun at the German Fest this year.  The German Fest will take place in the front parking lot of Zion.  Look for the tent, join your friends, and enjoy the fun for part of the day or the entire day.
